Aris Papageorgiou

Professor in obstetrics and fetal medicine at St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust in London

Clinical Research Director of the Oxford Maternal and Perinatal Health Institute, Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology .

Clinical expertise in fetal medicine and obstetric ultrasound; non-invasive and invasive prenatal diagnosis; and fetal therapy. Particular interest in normal and abnormal fetal growth and related poor placental function, which is also associated pre-eclampsia. He leads a number of research projects in these areas at both institutions. His work in Oxford focuses on large scale global projects in ultrasound (and clinical methods) for assessment of fetal and newborn growth and development; these include the INTERGROWTH-21st and  INTERBIO-21st projects .

He studied medicine at the University of Sheffield; he was a Research Fellow at the Harris Birthright Research Centre for Fetal Medicine at King’s College, from where he obtained his MD on large scale population screening for the prediction of pre-eclampsia. He completed his obstetric training in London with specialisation in both Obstetrics & Gynaecology; and Subspecialist training in Maternal & Fetal Medicine, whilst a lecturer at St George’s, University of London.
