Dr. Panayiotis Economides, MD, PhD, FACE, ECNU is an Associate Professor of Endocrinology at the European University Cyprus School of Medicine. He obtained his medical degree at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He did his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Newton-Wellesley Hospital/Tufts University School of Medicine followed by a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/ Joslin Diabetes Center and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a Staff Attending Physician at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/ Joslin Diabetes Center and Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. In Cyprus, he established the Thyroid & Endocrinology Center, a referral center for thyroid and endocrine diseases. He is past President of the Cyprus Endocrine Society and member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the European and American Thyroid Associations. His clinical and research interests are focused on thyroid nodules and thyroid carcinoma with a particular interest in thyroid and neck ultrasound and fine needle aspiration biopsy. He published original articles in major scientific journals, wrote book chapters and abstracts that were presented in international meetings.
