Νίκος Μιτσίδης

Dr Nicos Mitsides is a Lecturer in Nephrology and General Internal Medicine at the University of Cyprus and a practising Nephrologist at the Nicosia General Hospital. He graduated from the University of Manchester and practiced medicine in the UK for 17 years. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of the UK and holds the Speciality Certificate Examination in Nephrology. He received his PhD from the University of Manchester for his research work on salt and fluid overload in advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) and haemodialysis. Ηis research interests are in the areas of CKD, including disease progression, patient activation and shared decision making, haemodialysis and hemodiafiltration, and technology development. He is well published in peer reviewed journals and through book chapter contributions in these areas. He holds a PGDip in Clinical Education awarded with distinction by Edge Hill University and is the Postgraduate Speciality Training Program coordinator for nephrology in the district of Nicosia. Dr Mitsides is also the current President of the Cyprus Renal Association, the Vice-chair of the Technical Experts Committee for the contextualisation of the NICE guidelines on the assessment and management of CKD in Cyprus and the chair of the subcommittee of the General Health System involving Renal Disease. He is a peer reviewer for the adoption of national guidelines and protocols by the National Centre of Clinical Evidence Based Practice and a steering group lead for the Cyprus Renal Registry. He is also a member of the National Bioethics Assessment Committee and the vice-president of Cyprus Association of Kidney Patients’ Friends (Charity)
